Today, the youth received positive news. Their soccer team will be up and running again thanks to the support of Maria Westerberg and her friends back home. She used to work at Phi Phi Scuba as videographer. The money is donated by her family and relatives from Sweden.

Maria’s mother was on the island at the time the tsunami struck. Back in Sweden, she directly initiated fundraising actions to help the Phi Phi people. This support is of great value for these children – they are offered the possibility to focus their attention to other areas and are giving some distraction.

Although they are missing some of their friends who tragically died in the disaster, this is an important step that helps them to pick up the pieces and look forward again. This Saturday they will wear their uniforms in their first match – the kids where pleased to know that they can start playing, together again.

But there was more … a group of Canadian citizens visited the Hi Phi Phi House and brought welcome goods. Also we received important support from John Heike of Phi Phi Scuba. John has received a donation of Matthew McComish’s family – a special man who to our deepest regret did not survive the disaster.

John came with an important message from Adi, who is living in Switzerland and worked at the Visa Diving center. Adi has been active in his home country to raise funds and requested John to ensure that it was used for direct support. We kindly thank The Canadian citizens, John, Adi and Matthew’s family to help the Phi Phi people in their recovery. Their efforts and warmth are priceless.
